| Civil Services Exam - Geography |
|
|
1) Imbalances in preparation
There is a general tendency to concentrate more and put more efforts in preparing for certain topics of syllabus like Geomorphology. Your preparation time and effort should be in proportion to marks the topics carry in the exam. You are advised to concentrate more on topics like Environmental geography, population geography Regional development - planning, models and theories. Preparation for these topics consumes lesser time and guarantees more returns. Preparation or these topics also helps you in General studies and essay. |
2) Neglecting or undue dissection of Map pointing questions.
Compulsory map pointing questions are a boon to the students of geography. Broad and long term preparation is the best prescription. Your preparation for map pointing should go hand in hand with your regular preparation. Make 'Atlas reading' a regular habit. Neglecting map point is always done at your peril only since they carry 120 marks. Some students go mad behind the 'precision' aspect of map pointing blissfully ignoring the fact that precision shall be within the precincts of pragmatism. Examiner has been experimenting in this section. For example, in 2007 mains instead of world, Africa map was given. Earlier, once student was asked to draw the india map for himself. Therefore, you should bank on only on alround and long term preparation - not on ready made points available in the market. No shortcut to success - 'definitely'!! |
